romanticizing writing with… is a monthly interview series that offers a sneak peek into the dream scenario and the reality of an author’s writing life. In this column, we’re indulging, challenging, and shedding light on the ways we look at writing through a romantic lens.

Today we’re talking with my friend and author of My Roommate is a Vampire and My Vampire Plus-One, Jenna Levine! Jenna’s second book comes out TODAY so be sure to pick up your copy. No better way to kick off a new season than with a book 😊.

Jenna writes hilarious, fun paranormal rom-coms. My Vampire Plus-One, just like her first book, is such a feel-good, wild ride! In this book, Amelia is a busy accountant in the midst of tax season and wants to get her family off her back about her dating life. To do so, she pretends to have a boyfriend—and she tells them that she’s bringing him to an upcoming family wedding (!!).

Enter: Reginald (Reggie) Cleaves, a vampire who agrees to be Amelia’s pretend boyfriend. But the wedding has pre-wedding activities that requires Amelia and Reggie to spend more time together, and one thing leads to another….(don’t you love it when you accidentally find yourself in a relationship with a vampire?) Add to your TBR if you love fake dating, charming vampires, being snowed in with said charming vampires, bullet journaling, family drama, and judgmental cats.

Jenna shares what movie and series shaped her view of what being a writer would be like, the biggest challenges of being an author (and what others think author life is like), her dream post-writng meal, and writing retreats with her husband.

Let’s get romanticizing!
